The Upper West Regional Police Command is currently investigating an alleged shooting incident involving a police officer from the Regional Intelligence Directorate.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Dori in the Wa Municipality.

According to reports, a resident identified as Haruna Rashid, aged 38, from Tagrayiri, a suburb of Wa, sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh during a reported altercation over a motor traffic offence.

Rashid was promptly taken to the Upper West Regional Hospital for medical attention.

The Deputy Regional Commander, ACP. Peter Kamasa, led a team to visit the victim and his family to express concern and assure them of a thorough investigation.

“The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is working closely with the Regional Command to establish the facts surrounding the incident”, he stated. The public has been advised to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.

As the police command assured the public that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting incident, the Chief of Dori, Naa Blintoh Taasung Abdulai, has asked the CID Unit of the Ghana Police Service operating from Dori to immediately leave the area following the incident coupled with other complaints made against the unit.

The Chief gave this directive when the Professional Standards Bureau of the Ghana Police Service visited to give assurance of effective actions that will bring justice to the matter.
