The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of deliberately expunging some names suspected to be its members from the electoral roll in the Upper West Region.
The party claims to have evidence to support these allegations, stating that many members at various constituencies across the Upper West Region had their names removed from the register without their knowledge.
Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Foyo Gbande, who visited the Region to monitor the limited voter registration exercise and its development, disclosed to the media that over 900 names, have been removed from the EC’s data from the Nadowli Kaleo constituency, with a hundred and twenty-two (122) of them from the Wa Central.
“Over 900 voters have been deleted from the Electoral Commission’s database. Unknown to the political parties, unknown to the individuals and even unknown to the Electoral Commission’s offices [across the country].
“Wa Central we know that over 120 names were deleted. When the officer was questioned, he couldn’t provide any answer. He said the constituency executives should bring evidence, they brought 120 evidence of deleted names, as we speak, we don’t know whether to recapture those individuals as new entrants where the EC will come back and accuse them of doing double registration.
“But there is evidence that they had registered previously but their data cannot be found on the EC database. This revelation is very amazing, surprising, shocking. This might be happening in other parts of the country unknown to the political parties, particularly the NDC and unknown to the individuals who are affected by these schemes of the EC. Scheme I call because it’s done on the blindside of people who ought to know and people who are expected to know,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, attempts to get officers of the Electoral Commission to respond to the issue proved futile.
