The Yeri-Naa, Alhaji Sualihu Moomin Sungumo II, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for his nomination of Alhaji Nurah Issah Danwana as the Mayor of the Wa Metropolitan Assembly, describing it as a testimony to the confidence he reposts in him.
According to the Yeri-Naa, the nomination of their Son, Alhaji Nurah Issah Danwana, as a Mayor of Wa Metropolis will significantly ensure the resetting agenda is accomplished.
“The Yeri-Naa and his elders are deeply indebted to you for this singular honour done to their son,” he stated.
In a 2-page statement issued on Monday, April 07, 2025, and signed by the Yeri-Naa’s secretary, Ahmed Abdulai Yahaya, he said the office of the traditional leader acknowledged the nomination as a testament to Alhaji Danwana’s capabilities.
“The Yeri-Naa therefore wishes to assure you on behalf of his son that, he will work assiduously to help ensure that your resetting agenda is accomplished,” he pledged.
The Mayor nominee, Alhaji Nurah Issah Danwana, is a well-known political figure in the Wa Metropolis, having served as the Deputy Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for 12 years.
His nomination is seen as a recognition of his dedication and commitment to public service.
It is on this background that the Yeri-Naa extended appreciation to key stakeholders, including the Wa Naa, Tendamba, Froko, Regional Chief Imam, and the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Dr Hassan Rashid Pelpuo, for their support and prayers.
The 78-year-old Yeri-Naa also thanked the NDC party leadership at the regional and constituency levels for their backing.
He expressed confidence that the Mayor nominee, when approved, will work collaboratively with stakeholders to advance the development agenda of the Wa Metropolis.
The Yeri-Naa concluded by offering blessings to the government, expressing gratitude for the nomination and praying that the Almighty Allah richly blesses them.
President John Dramani Mahama has officially nominated candidates for the position of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District, Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country.
The nominations, made in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended, are now subject to approval by the respective District Assemblies.
