At least four persons have died in two separate bee attacks in the Akatsi North and the Anloga Districts of the Volta region in the spate of a week.

The latest incident which happened at the E.P Basic school in Anloga on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 claimed the lives of two pupils.

Both Theodora Amewovi, 9, and Michael Kumeko, 4, died shortly after a swam of bee stung them while in school.

According to the Assemblyman for the area, Johnson Bokovi, at about 10:30 am that morning, the pupils who were on break were playing football when the bees, nesting in a nearby tree were disturbed leading to the fatal attack.

“They were playing football and the ball got stuck in the tree. In their attempt to retrieve the ball, they threw stones and that was how the bees were disturbed.”

“They stung both teachers and the pupils including the headmaster,” he added.

Two other learners, a boy and a girl were admitted at the Keta Municipal hospital following the incident.

Checks by the news team as of Thursday, December 18, 2025 indicate that the girl had been discharged while the boy continues to receive treatment.

On Saturday, December 13, a similar incident around Avega in the Akatsi North district claimed the lives of two adults.
