The Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has underscored the need to preserve Ghana’s cultural heritage and promote the contributions of its iconic figures.
Speaking at a book launch in Accra, Professor Jane Opoku-Agyemang stressed the need to honour the legacy of one of Ghana’s iconic figures, Ephraim Amu.
The book is titled Ephraim Amu: Nationalist, poet, and theologian (1899 – 1995).
Ephraim Amu was a renowned Ghanaian composer, musicologist, and a teacher.
He was also a pioneer in promoting African culture and music, and his compositions include the popular patriotic song “Yen ara asase ni”. The Vice President said the works and contributions of Ephraim Amu to Ghana’s culture and nationalism is unparalleled and should continue to inspire generations.
She said, “his unwavering commitment to the country’s cultural identity and moral integrity made him an extraordinary figure whose contributions transcended music and education” and stressed the need for such person’s wisdom, sacrifices, and resilience to be honoured.
