The Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has arrived in China ahead of her participation in the Global South Academic Forum (GSAF), scheduled to take place in Shanghai on October 17, 2026.

The forum, which is being held under the theme “Global South Political Parties: Governance and Modernization,” will bring together scholars, policymakers and media professionals from Africa, Asia and Latin America to discuss governance, economic transformation, modernization and the evolving role of developing countries in global affairs.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is scheduled to address the gathering on October 16, 2026, where her participation is expected to place Ghana’s development priorities within broader discussions on governance, international cooperation and the influence of countries in the Global South.

The Global South Academic Forum is an international academic platform initiated by the International Communication Research Institute of East China Normal University.

It provides an avenue for intellectual engagement and knowledge-sharing on issues affecting developing economies, including digital sovereignty, sustainable development and global governance.

Ghana has previously engaged with the forum through academic exchanges. In January 2026, the platform facilitated engagements with a high-level Ghanaian delegation to explore China’s development experience and Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy initiative.

The Vice President’s participation comes at a time when cooperation among developing countries continues to feature prominently in discussions about economic development, institutional modernization and international partnerships.

Her engagement in Shanghai is expected to provide an opportunity for Ghana to exchange ideas with international stakeholders on governance approaches, development strategies and the need for stronger cooperation among countries of the Global South.

The forum is expected to contribute to ongoing conversations about how developing countries can strengthen their institutions, accelerate economic transformation and play a more influential role in shaping the global development agenda.

Ghana’s participation underscores the importance of academic dialogue and international engagement in addressing shared development challenges and exploring opportunities for cooperation among countries of the Global South.
