A feasibility study has been completed for the establishment of a modern Sports Complex and Vocational Training Village at Ho Takla-Tiyinu in the Ho Municipality to enhance the Asogli State Youth Development Agenda.
The Sports Complex and Skills Training Village, when completed, is expected to empower not only the youth of Asogli State but youth groups across the entire Volta Region with employable skills to enable them to cater for themselves and the generations yet unborn.
Bright Senyo Dey, who is championing the establishment of the facility, says the project is part of the organisation’s pledge to equip the many unemployed youth in the Asogli State with the skills needed for their upkeep.
The Founder of the organisation, Bright Senyo Dey, who is also a native of Ho-Dome, disclosed this to 3News during a three-month soccer tournament involving 10 Asogli State communities in Ho. He announced that the facility, when completed, is expected to train more than 300 youth in various vocational programmes and sporting disciplines, as the youth are attracted to games, particularly soccer.
Mr. Dey noted that the initiative is aimed at helping to bring peace and unity among youth groups under the Asogli State, who he said have been left alone to struggle for their livelihood without support from any quarter over the years.
His pledge, therefore, is to ensure that young citizens of Ho and beyond do not go through such difficult challenges as hustling to go to school on their own without guardians, saying “never again” in this era of technology.
Mr. Senyo Dey stated without reservation that the youth are generally believed to be the backbone of the future of every community, but have not been well positioned by the powers that be to become responsible citizens in the Asogli State, which he described as unfortunate.
According to the Founder, the Foundation’s international partners, with support from the Asogli State Traditional Council, would ensure that the youth are repositioned to take over the mantle after acquiring the requisite professional skills for the emerging difficult socio-economic growth of the world.
Mr. Senyo Dey said the package for the Sports Complex and Skills Training Village is so rich that all, including persons with disabilities, should take advantage of it to become future employers rather than employees, as they would be skillfully trained in various professional fields.
The package, according to the Founder, is well structured such that the youth would not only go through skills training as spelt out in his earlier submission but would also enjoy periodic counselling to meet international standards.
A Senior Member of the Foundation, Martin Asamoah, said the Asogli Yam Festival Football Tournament, sponsored by the Bright Senyo Dey Foundation and featuring 10 communities under the Asogli State, is competing for the giant silver cup at stake as part of the Foundation’s contribution towards this year’s Asogli Yam Festival.
According to him, the soccer tournament dubbed “Asogli Te-Za Football Fiesta”, which is part of activities to mark this year’s festival, will be organised every year to help bring the youth together for unity and to accelerate development.
Mr. Asamoah disclosed that the football tournament is also intended to create an enabling environment for their foreign partners to scout for good players for their teams abroad, as part of the long-term package for youth who are poised to play for teams outside Ghana.
Twenty-five (25) outstanding players will be selected from the 10 teams competing for laurels and are expected to put in their best to merit inclusion.
The 10 communities are Akoefe, Bankoe, Dome, Takla, Shia, Have, Hliha, Kpenoe, Zongo ‘A’ and Zongo ‘B’.
Mr. Asamoah urged the footballers to exhibit a high level of discipline during the tournament to enable them to attract the attention of the foreign partners, who have already shown commitment to invest in them at all levels.
