A last-minute penalty by Jerry Afriyie earned the Black Satellites a 2-2 draw against Benin in their opening game at the WAFU Zone B U-20 Championships.
The Group A game was the second in the Championships, which serve as qualifiers for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana opened the scoring through Afriyie as early as the 14th minute but allowed Benin to equalise 12 minutes later.
The Beninois then took the lead just before the break after a teasing ball beat the Ghana goalkeeper.
With the Black Satellites behind, the second half saw them fighting to, at least, earn a draw.
Their push paid off in injury time as a handball in the Benin penalty area saw the referee whistle for a foul.
Afriyie stepped up to convert from the spot, earning the Ghanaians a much-needed point.
Earlier in the day, hosts Togo had been held to a 2-2 draw by Niger, throwing the group still open like it has started.
Ghana will play Niger on Sunday while Togo hosts neighbours Benin same day in the second round of group games.
