One of the contenders of the parliamentary candidacy slot of the New Patriotic Party in the Walewale Constituency, Hajia Lariba Zuweira has withdrawn from the contest.

Her decision to withdraw from the race is contained in a letter addressed to the General Secretary, Justin Koduah Frimpong on September 10.

“Following the inconclusive re-run of the parliamentary primary in the Walewale Constituency yesterday (with the Electoral Commission unable to declare a winner a result of an unfortunate incident) I have decided that in the interest of the greater good of the New Patriotic Party and peace and unity in the Walewale Constituency, I will no longer be a candidate for MP in the 2024 elections. I am therefore formally withdrawing from the contest,” the incumbent MP stated.

“I would like to thank the party for the honour done me in representing my constituency over the last four years and can assure the party of my continued support in the 2024 election campaign,” she added.

It would be recalled that on September 9, the election was disrupted by some unscrupulous individuals after ballot papers were sorted.

Six persons including a former Constituency Chairman for Yagaba Kubori have been arrested.

The High Court in Tamale last week annulled the January 27, 2024, primary and ordered the NPP to rerun the elections.
