The grand durbar of the 2024 Mepe Afenorto festival is set in motion at the Presbyterian School park in the community.

The 68th edition of the festival, with the theme: Rebuilding and sustainability of Mepe; post Akosombo Dam flood disaster, aims at instilling hope in the people after the damning effect of the disaster that befell them barely a year ago.

One of the key elements of the carnival, is the grand durbar of chiefs which is slated for the second Saturday of every August.

The meaning of the festival, Fenorto, is “Period of Rest at Home” and it is celebrated by the Chiefs and people of Mepe Traditional Area located in the North Tongu district of the Volta Region.

It is celebrated annually to renew the sense of oneness of the people, and thus, provides a unique opportunity for reunions, particularly bondage with the extended family and ancestors.
