The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Franklin Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has said that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is unparalleled when it comes to promises.

He says the NDC can never match the NPP when it comes to promises, the reason they have made promises they cannot fulfill since the commencement of the Fourth Republic.

Fifi Kwetey has therefore advised that, “the competition for power should never become who can promise more.”

Speaking at the launch of the NDC Manifesto at Winneba Saturday, August 24, 2024, he admitted that if the election was about promises, the NDC wouldn’t have come near the ruling administration.

“Because if its is an issue of promising, we know we in the NDC we can never match our friends in the NPP. Many of you remember that as far back as 1992 in that very first election of this Fourth Republic, the NPP already started promising this country, their capacity to build rail lines from Accra all the way to northern part of Ghana,” he stated.

Fifi Kwetey added that the NPP believes that one has to make promises they know they can’t fulfill in order to win elections in Ghana. But he said that is something Ghanaians have grown past.

“These are people who are known for easy promises because unfortunately their belief is that to win power, you simply need to say anything. So a contest between us and them, on the back of promises, is a contest that naturally you’ll lose. Why, because if you have integrity and honour, you don’t just promise anything,” he indicated.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is launching its 2024 Manifesto today, Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the University of Education, Winneba.

Former President and flag bearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama, has said the party’s 2024 manifesto launch today marks the first step to liberating the country from challenges that have held the nation back for too long.

It also marks “the first step towards resetting our dear nation, Ghana”, he said in a brief promotional video released a day to the launch, Friday, August 23, 2024.

The theme for the manifesto launch is Change to Reset Ghana.

In his message, Mahama said, “tomorrow we take the first step towards resetting our dear nation Ghana. We face challenges that have held us back for too long, but now it’s time to build the Ghana we all want together. Join me from Winneba in the Central region as I unveil a vision for our future that will bring justice, jobs, and prosperity to every corner of our beloved nation, Ghana. Tomorrow, we begin the journey together.”

The event has drawn party bigwigs and the rank and file to fill the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Auditorium which is hosting the launch.

The event is being spearheaded by the flag bearer and his running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
