The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has urged victims of abuse especially young men to speak up to help authorities pursue justice.

Her call follows TV3’s documentary, “When Boys Cry,” which highlights cases of sexual abuse involving men and boys and the lasting impact on survivors.

The Minister reiterated her Ministry’s commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for all genders, stressing that abuse affects everyone and must be addressed without stigma.

She encouraged survivors to report incidents to appropriate agencies, including the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and social welfare services, assuring the public of confidentiality and survivor-centered support.

“We encourage all victims of abuse, especially young men, to voice out so we can seek justice, most at times its difficult for boys to report incidents of abuse but it is always better to report and face a little stigma and shame and get the needed justice than to die leaving your dreams and also traumatized ” she said.

As of December 2025, ninety (90) survivors of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence were supported with (medical, legal, social welfare, shelter and psychological support) at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).

The Ministry says it will continue to work with law enforcement, civil society, and the media to strengthen prevention, reporting, and access to justice for victims nationwide.
