The assertion that Ghana’s economic downturn stems from government’s reckless spending is not true, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has noted.

He has denied every form of reckless spending by the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

The flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has insisted their administration has expended State funds judiciously, the effect of which would be realised by Ghanaians in the long run.

He explains his intention to use only 50 ministers upon assumption of office is part of the measures to cut down on government expenditure to save the public purse.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated his intentions to cut down government expenditure between three (3) and five (5) per cent whilst speaking at the 8th Ghana CEO Summit held in Accra Monday, May 27, 2024.

I will reduce gov’t expenditure by 3% to GDP in my first term – Bawumia assures

“The networking of the hospitals—you know, Ghana.gov—all of these things have been spearheaded. So the government is not uploading and spending upfront. And I want us to apply this model.

“My view, as I have stated, is that let us bring down government expenditure between 3 to 5 percent. I believe that I can run a government with 50 ministers rather than what we are doing today.” he indicated.
