The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of shying away from a re-run of the disputed Ablekuma North Parliamentary results.
Speaking on 3FM Sunrise with Johnnie Hughes, Rashid Tanko insists that any attempt by the opposing NPP and the Electoral Commission to overturn the verdict will not be taken lightly.
“We (NDC) want a re-run for the 62 polling stations, but the NPP is running away. They’re insisting on declaring the results with their fake scanned copies and we won’t accept it,” he said.
The Chief Executive Officer, of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) further accused the Electoral Commission of plans to rig the elections in favour of the NPP.
“This EC is the problem of the country’s democracy. Why should collating results and figures be a challenge? Then, there’s an ulterior motive to rig.”
He meanwhile argues that the NDC candidate in the person of Ewurabena Aubynn is the legitimate elected Member of Parliament for the Constituency.
“As of December 8, Ewurabena was declared the winner for the constituency. By law, it is the returning officer who declares the elections and that has been done. So, I don’t see why the NPP is rejecting the results.” Rashid Tanko said.
The Ablekuman North Constituency is still yet to get a representative as their Member of Parliament after the 2024 General elections. Despite several attempts by the EC to collate the results, the process has been marred by chaos. The EC has asked the Ghana Police Service to provide them with security to continue the collation and declaration process.
Mr Tanko Computer says a winner has already been declared.
“There’s a winner for Ablekuman North. As of December 8, Ewurabena was declared the winner for the constituency. By law, it is the returning who declares the elections. If the officer announces someone as the winner and you are not satisfied, you file a case in court to seek redress,” he said.
