A viral video aired on Onua Maakye Wednesday, April 5, 2023 showed some ‘wee’ smokers mercilessly assaulting some personnel from the Community Police Assistant (CPA) unit of the Ghana Police Service with pestle and other clubs at Ejisu Juaben in the Ashanti region.

The video shows a group of young men beating another man with a pestle, sticks, and stones. Another video showed the same group attacking another man, with blood coming from his mouth and nose.

The video is trending on social media but Onua TV couldn’t show all due to the sensitive nature of portions of it.

According to a report given by Agya Dan on Onua Maakye Wednesday, April 5, 2023, the two officers shortchanged the ghetto boys for a thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢1000) which resulted to the beatings.

Further reports gathered by OnuaOnline indicate the police had arrested a friend of those men seen in the video for dealing in illicit drugs.

The two officers, therefore, demanded the GH¢1000 from the gang under the guise of giving it to their commander for their friend to be released.

They waited in anticipation of their colleague’s release but got no results. The delay in their friend’s release caused them to storm the police station for explanation to the delay. The ghetto gang smokers realised at the station that the CPAs did not give the money to their Station Commander which got them infuriated.

“They went to the various homes of the officers and attacked them. The one you see them striking with a pestle is known in the area as Owuraku, 26, who lives in my Electoral Area, and the other one is called Exhibit, 33,” Frank Osei, an Assemblyman had said on Kumasi-based OTEC FM.

The two officers were hospitalised following the attack, and six people in the video who have not yet been identified were arrested by police in the area for further investigations.

Many have reacted to the incident on social media calling for justice to be served.
