The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has stated emphatically that the next NDC government will rectify a lot of things, for instance make July 1 a holiday again.

The former President made this known in the Upper East Region, where he has been touring on campaign ahead of the December 7 elections.

Speaking at a durbar with the chiefs and people of Yarigabiisi in the Bolgatanga East Constituency in the Upper East Region, Mr Dramani Mahama said no body will be allowed to change the history of Ghana and rewrite it.

He cited South Africa as an example where he said people like Thabo Mbeki and others were part of those who helped South Africa to gain independence but because Nelson Mandela was the lead, his name is always mentioned as the one who gained independence for them.

According to him, apart from destroying the economy, plunging Ghana into a ditch, one of the things this government wants to do is to rewrite the country’s history and “we will not allow them to rewrite our history,” John Mahama stated.

He again stated that the UGCC at the time wrote a letter to the Queen of England telling her not to grant Ghana independence because “we were not ready yet”.
