President Mahama has said his government will not encourage any false and misleading allegations about criminal matters in the country, especially when it bothers on the state.
The President while expressing his absolute resolve to take matters of crime allegations seriously and investigate same, dismissed any attempt by individuals to mislead government by engaging in a “game of smoke and mirrors.”
To engage in a game of smoke and mirrors is to obscure or embellish the truth of a situation with misleading or irrelevant informati on.
He made this statement while speaking at the Graduation Parade of the Ghana Military Academy on Friday, April 11, 2025.
“Let me reiterate that we will take all allegations of crime seriously and trigger our security service investigative machinery to go after criminals no matter who they are but let me state emphatically also that we do not have the resources and time to engage in any game of smoke and mirrors,” the President stated.
The President’s comment comes on the back of a drug trafficking and money laundering allegation by Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour.
The President has since tasked investigative bodies and all security institutions to collaborate with the MP to investigate the allegations.
But John Ntim Fordjour is yet to appear before the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to assist with investigations into the drug trafficking and money laundering allegations.
On Wednesday, April 9, national security operatives stormed the residence of the MP at Spintex to effect an arrest which they claim was backed by a court order.
However, the MP refused to go with the national security officials and called on other members of the Minority Caucus who eventually visited him in his house and prevented the arrest.
They argued that Ntim Fordjour can only be invited by the NIB for questioning when the Speaker of Parliament grants approval to the NIB.
Currently, the MP who made the claim is yet to collaborate with security operatives to investigate his allegations.
