The Western North Regional Police Command, led by the newly appointed Regional Commander, DCOP Dr. Francis Kwame Tsidi, has held a press engagement to formally introduce the Commander to the media.
DCOP Dr. Tsidi also outlined his vision and mission for the region as the new Commander for the region.
During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of rebuilding trust and collaboration between the police and the media.
He noted that under the previous administration, media relations had been strained, but the current Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has taken deliberate steps to restore that partnership.
“The media now has full access to engage with police leadership at both the district and regional levels to seek accurate information,” he said. “This ensures that journalists can report responsibly and factually, particularly on sensitive criminal matters.”
Dr. Tsidi urged journalists to always seek verified information before publishing, especially when dealing with criminal cases. He reiterated the need for accuracy and professionalism in journalism, stating that misinformation can undermine public trust.
Highlighting one of his key mandates, Dr. Tsidi revealed that the IGP tasked him with leading the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) in the region. He expressed his commitment to protecting the environment, including forests and water bodies, and pledged to hold his personnel accountable in this mission.
“I am here to enforce the laws of Ghana and to serve with integrity, accountability, transparency, and justice,” he declared.
He called on journalists to engage the police for guidance before reporting, to ensure that their stories are factual and balanced.
The press engagement took place on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Sefwi Wiawso Police Divisional Headquarters at Tanoso. It was attended by members of the media across the Western North Region.
