Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has urged Parliamentarians to fulfill their promises, especially the ones they make on the floor of Parliament.

His comments follow a promise made by the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, which he failed to honour.

According to him, the Effutu lawmaker promised the House to present the former Finance Minister, Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, to the country, to aid in investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in May.

Mahama Ayariga says his colleague MP and caucus leader has clearly failed to honour that promise, launching a scathing critique at him on the floor on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

Afenyo-Markin had promised to bring Ken Ofori-Atta on February 18, where he assured that he was expected back to the country in May 2025, after seeking healthcare abroad.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, he asked: “Mr. Speaker, if I may say — referring to Afenyo-Markin — he promised this House that he would bring Ken Ofori-Atta in May. We are now in June. Where is Ken Ofori-Atta? Where is Ken? Where is Ken?”

The Majority Leader further questioned the credibility of Afenyo-Markin, questioning the whereabouts of the former Finance Minister.

“You promised us that you would bring Ken to this House. You came here and made a promise. You stood on this floor and assured us that he would return in May. Now we are in June — where is Ken Ofori-Atta?”

He demanded accountability from him, saying: “Mr. Speaker, he should no longer be heard in this House. When he makes promises, he does not fulfill them. He comes here, makes statements, and never follows through — and yet he questions the promises of others.”

He concluded with a call for consistency and integrity in leadership: “When you made a promise, did you fulfill it? If we, as Members of Parliament, make promises, we must keep them.”
