The ruling NPP is asking the opposition NDC to provide the remaining 10 minutes of the tape recording containing the alleged conversation between Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney-General, and Richard Jakpa, the third defendant in the ongoing ambulance case.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is saying that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), during its press conference Tuesday, May 28, 2024, stated that the audio tape they intended playing to the public was 26 minutes long but ended up playing 16 minutes.

Addressing the press at a counter media engagement Tuesday, Frank Davies, who spoke on behalf of the NPP stated that “it is unacceptable, that Johnson Asiedu Nketia, runs a commentary over the alleged tape calculated to prevent you the Ghanaian people from making your own deduction reasoned judgment.”

“Again, even though from the screenshots displayed, the alleged conversation is 26mins, the NDC schemed to play only 16 minutes. The question then is, where is the rest of the tape. Even in respect of what was played, it is apparent that there are repetitions, overlaps, incoherence, voice overs and distortions, demonstrating that, the NDC has spent these past days doctoring whatever tape they played,” he added.

Mr. Davies also debunked the NDC’s claim that the Attorney-General sought to coerce the defendant to falsify his testimony against the Minority Leader, Dr. Ato Forson.

“Even on the Doctored tape, the Attorney General never requested the witness falsify, fabricate or concoct any evidence or testify in the prosecution’s favour,” he stated.

Richard Jakpa, the third defendant in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial alleged in court Thursday, May 23, 2024, that the Attorney-General had encouraged him to provide false testimony against Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson in the ongoing case.

The NDC, following the claims, released a 16-minute audio recording as evidence to support Mr. Jakpa’s allegations.

The recording purportedly captures a conversation between Godfred Dame and Jakpa, wherein Dame is alleged to have coached Jakpa on the statements to make in court, targeting Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, at the press conference the party held Tuesday, May 28, explained that the tape depicted a coaching session aimed at influencing Jakpa’s court testimony.

However, in response to the NDC’s revelations, NPP legal practitioner Frank Davies addressed the press on the same day.

He argued that the tape contained repetitions, overlaps, and voice distortions, suggesting that the NDC had manipulated the alleged recording they presented.
