The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to withdraw their supporters from the constituency collation centres nationwide.
The call was made by the Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, at a press conference in the early hours of December 8.
3news correspondents across the country have reported that huge numbers of supporters of both parties have thronged various constituency collation centres.
According to Mr Tettey, the presence of the supporters at the collation centres is impeding the collation process.
“I wish to urge the political parties to withdraw their supporters immediately. The activities of the supporters are impending the process. The results being collated at the centres have already been recorded on the pink sheets at the polling stations, so there is no need for them to be there,” he appealed.
The Deputy Chairperson cautioned that “results produced without due process will not be accepted by the EC.”
Mr Tettey subsequently called on the Police to assist in ridding the collation centres of the supporters.
“The Police must step in,” he stated.
