The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo has credited National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johson Asiedu Nketia with his overwhelming win during the 2024 Parliamentary election in the Constituency.
He said Mr Nketia contributed greatly to rallying the rank and file of the party within the Constituency to vote massively for him.
“…2024 for this seat. Without him, I don’t think we would have been able to get the 13,000 votes margin that we got for the first time in Ayawoso West Wuogon. But I can assure him that despite everything that is going on, we will increase the votes from 13,000 to 17,000 or 20,000 in Ayawoso West Wuogon. We will not rest. We will make sure we work hard,” he said when Mr Nketia visited the Constituency on his ‘Thank You Tour’ on March 11.
Mr Dumelo noted, however, that this feat can be achieved only if the youth in the Constituency have jobs to do.
“But one thing is very important. The only way we can achieve this is about jobs. Jobs for the grassroots. That is very important…everybody’s talking about jobs. And so please help the grassroots. Help us to be able to help the grassroots. Because I can assure you that the good work that all the grassroots did, we need to reward them,” he stressed.
Mr Dumelo explained that, “I have a limit. I can only do so much. If I have three or four slots, and there are a thousand people who want their jobs, I can only give it to three. What about the rest of the 997 people or 996 people? So please, I know for a fact that you’re a listening leader, and you make sure that the grassroots get the jobs and get it in time.”
The Ayawaso West Wuogon MP used the occasion to appeal to members of the NDC who feel left out in the opportunities created by the Government, not to lose hope.
“The other issue which I’m also very passionate about, is also about opportunities for everybody. I know that in 2028, some people will fall off. Some will be angry with the party. But I want to urge each and every one of you here, don’t lose hope.
In 2028, we need to keep the momentum. 2028, we need to make sure that NDC is retained when it comes to the general election. In 2028, all I can tell you is that if Kwesi has a job, you too will get a job. If Abena has a job, you too, your time will come. So don’t worry. The jobs will come. The opportunities will come,” he assured.
Mr Nketia said he put in extra effort to win the seat to honour party faithful who were manhandled during a by-election in the Constituency.
“I gave special attention to Ayawaso West Wuogon because of what some of our comrades suffered in this Constituency under the previous administration. By the grace of God, we did not only win the seat, we won with a huge margin,” he said.
He urged the youth to take advantage of the ongoing of membership registration exercise to join the party officially.
