The Western North Regional Police Command has confirmed that two people died following a shooting incident at Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.
According to an official police statement, preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred during a confrontation between some members of the Sayerano community and a police patrol team.
The police said six people sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. Two of the victims died, while three others are currently receiving treatment at Asafo Roman Catholic Hospital.

In response to the incident, all eight police officers involved have been interdicted. The Inspector-General of Police has directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Western North Regional Police Command stated that calm has been restored in the community and assured the public that a thorough and impartial investigation is underway. The Command added that further updates will be communicated as investigations progress.
Earlier, the residents blocked the main highway passing through the community following the fatal shooting incident allegedly involving police officers.
The protest happened after police allegedly opened fire during an operation, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to two others.
Tension remains high in the community, with residents reportedly preventing security personnel from entering the area.
The highway linking the community to the Bia West District has been blocked, making it impossible for vehicles to pass.
The bodies of the two deceased persons are still lying on the streets as residents await action from the relevant authorities.
