A Private Legal Practitioner Osman Alhassan has questioned why the Minority and leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are not resorting to the courts over the continued detention of its Ashanti Regional Chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Chairman Wontumi has been in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following his arrest on allegations of fraud, money laundering, and involvement in organised crime, according to the Attorney- General’s Department.

In protest, the Minority staged a walkout in Parliament and later organized a sit-down demonstration at EOCO’s headquarters on Thursday, May 29, 2025, accusing the investigative body of unfair treatment and political bias.

Speaking to Johnnie Hughes on 3FM Sunrise on May 30, Osman Alhassan urged the Minority to pursue legal remedies.

“It is quite surprising that the NPP have soon forgotten the way to the courts. Was it not some months ago when they were screaming at others to go to court? What has changed?” He questioned.

Osman Alhassan also emphasized that EOCO doesn’t have the mandate to vary bail conditions. It is a court that does that. So, the Minority Leader who is a lawyer should know better than demonstrating on the streets.”

Meanwhile, a Senior Governance Advisor at the African Parliamentary Network (APNAC), Prof David Abdulai has urged Members of Parliament to focus on their parliamentary duties and serve the interests of their constituents rather than partisan agenda.

“Our politics in this country is too bi partisan and its lacks thinking. It’s all about my party this, my party that whether it’s wrong or not. Let’s be rationale in our actions. Your constituents voted for you to represent you, not to be fighting for your party.” He chastised.

3FM Sunrise airs every Monday to Friday at 5:55 am to 10am with Johnnie Hughes, Helen Appiah-Appiah Ampofo and Noble Crosby Annan.
