An eighteen-year-old Form Two student at the Essipon Technical Institute has unfortunately met her untimely death by being knocked down by a speeding private vehicle at Inchaban in the Shama District of the Western Region.
The Assembly Member for the area, Emmanuel Bordor, confirmed to Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show on June 9 that the deceased was on her way to school when the incident occurred.
“She was on her way to school when the driver, who was heading towards Beposo, crashed into her. She was lying helplessly, but those who arrived at the scene earlier were only taking pictures instead of attending to her. I got there and took her into my vehicle. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital,” he indicated.
According to him, the driver who caused the accident has been arrested by the Police to assist with investigations.
“The driver lives in the same area as the deceased. He has been arrested, and his vehicle has been towed to the Police Station. The body of the young girl has since been deposited at the mortuary,” he added.
An eyewitness added that three persons were in the vehicle when the accident occurred.
“I was around when the accident occurred. I quickly moved to the scene and saw three persons in the private vehicle. They were all alive and unhurt. I saw books at the scene, which made me suspect that the car might have hit someone. I followed the trail of books and saw the lifeless body of the young girl lying in the bush,” eyewitness Abubakar Kassim added.
Four persons have died through road accidents in the past one week in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region. Three have been identified as students whilst one is a journalist with Max FM in Enchi.
