A fatal motorbike accident involving two brothers on Saturday morning has left one dead and the other in critical condition.

The incident occurred a few meters from Shama Junction in the Shama District of the Western Region when the brothers, together on one motorbike, collided head-on with another motorbike from the opposite direction.

According to eyewitnesses, the impact caused the brothers to be thrown off their motorbike and into the path of an Ivorian truck loaded with cattle.

One of the brothers, the pillion rider, 18-year-old Nana Adjei died instantly, while his brother, the rider, 25-year-old Kobina Atta, sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the St. Benedict Hospital in Inchaban.

Personnel from the Sekondi MTTD quickly arrived at the scene to control traffic.

Investigation has since begun.

The body of the deceased has since been conveyed to the mortuary.

The victims’ mother, Cecelia Blay, recounted the heartbreaking moment she heard the news.

“They left home this morning and were going to work as masons. We had a call a few minutes later that they had been in an accident. We are devastated and don’t know what to say,” she said, visibly shaken.

The incident has left the Shama community in a state of shock and mourning, with many residents calling for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to curb the growing high rate of motorbike-related accidents in the area.
