The king and overlord of the Gonja kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale, has reiterated his proposal for the establishment of an annual conference of kings and chiefs in northern Ghana to focus on the collective development of the territory.

According to him, traditional rulers have a responsibility of partnering with other stakeholders to contribute to the development of their respective traditional areas.

He first made the call when he visited the Ya Na in Dagbon in June this year.

“Just as I did on my visit to Dagbon, I proposed that there is the need to establish an annual conference of Kings and Chiefs in Northern Ghana focused on the collective development of the north.

“This will give us the opportunity as kingdoms to discuss important matters critical to our growth and development as a people with high levels of poverty,” he noted.

Since June this year, the Yagbonwura has since embarked on two successive historic visits to the Dagbon and Mamprugu Kingdoms.

His vision with the visits, is to foster peace and unity while strengthening mutual relationships between traditional authorities.

It is unclear where the king will be visiting next, however, what’s certain is the Yagbonwura will surely visit another kingdom soon.
