As farmers continue to seek more effective ways of improving productivity and increasing returns from their investment, Yara Ghana has introduced two crop specific fertilizer solutions, Yara Winner Plus and Yara Legume.
This is to support improved crop performance and sustainable agricultural production.
The introduction of these two crop solutions products forms part of Yara’s global mission of “Responsibly Feeding the World and Protecting the Planet.”
By providing farmers with tailored crop nutrition solutions that respond to the unique needs of different crops while helping farmers achieve improved yields, better crop quality, and increased profitability.
The newly introduced fertilizers designed to support the production of fruits, vegetables, legumes and rice was unveiled during a farmers’ engagement held in Walewale in the North East Region.
The event brought together farmers, agricultural stakeholders, and industry actors to discuss the importance of adopting the right fertilizer solutions for improved farm outcomes.
Speaking in an interview, the Country Director for Yara Ghana, Madam Theresa Randolph, said the company recognizes the changing needs of farmers and remains committed to providing crop nutrition solutions that enable them to improve productivity and livelihoods.
She explained that Yara Ghana continue to work closely with farmers and agricultural stakeholders to develop fertilizer solutions that are suitable for Ghana’s farming conditions and address challenges affecting crop production.
The Country Director, noted that farmers are becoming more deliberate in selecting agricultural inputs due to increasing production costs, climate-related challenges, and the need to maximize value from their investments and assured farmers that Yara Ghana will continue to invest in sustainable agricultural solutions that improve productivity, strengthen resilience, and enhance profitability across the farming value chain.
“Yara Ghana is committed to providing our smallholder farmers with the right crop nutrition solutions to enable them to achieve optimal yields, improve their incomes, and enhance their livelihoods. Recognizing the need for products that address the requirements of different crop segments, we developed Yara Winner Plus and Yara Legume to support farmers in making informed input decisions and achieving improved productivity,” she said.
The North East Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr. Edward Nasara, welcomed the introduction of the new fertilizer products, describing Yara Ghana as an important partner in Ghana’s agricultural development.
He said the Department of Agriculture would continue working with Yara Ghana through extension services, farmer education, and technical support to ensure farmers properly understand the application and benefits of the new fertilizer solutions.
Mr. Nasara noted that access to effective crop nutrition products would contribute to increased agricultural productivity, improved farmer incomes, and greater participation of young people in agriculture, particularly vegetable production.
He added that increased youth involvement in farming could create employment opportunities and contribute to reducing rural-urban migration.
He therefore encouraged farmers to adopt recommended fertilizer application practices to achieve improved yields and sustainable production.
Yara Ghana Provides Technical Support to Farmers
Adding this voice, Yara Ghana, Sales Agronomist responsible for the North East Region, Mr. Osuman Fuseini, emphasized the importance of applying the right fertilizer solutions at the appropriate stages of crop development to achieve maximum benefits.
He explained that, the introduction of Yara Winner Plus and Yara Legume was informed by the need to provide farmers with specialised products designed to meet the nutritional requirements of specific crops.
According to him, crop productivity goes beyond applying fertilizers, stressing the need for farmers to understand soil conditions, crop requirements, and proper application methods.
Mr. Fuseini encouraged farmers to take advantage of Yara Ghana’s agronomic support services and apply the recommended practices to improve crop quality, increase yields, and achieve better economic returns from farming.
He added that Yara Ghana would continue providing technical guidance and knowledge-sharing opportunities to help farmers make informed decisions on crop nutrition.
Farmers Express Confidence in New Products
Some farmers who participated in the engagement expressed optimism about the newly introduced fertilizer solutions, citing their previous experiences with Yara products.
They said they were hopeful that Yara Winner Plus and Yara Legume would contribute to improved production of crops such as soybeans, beans, vegetables, and rice while helping them increase productivity and farm incomes.
Yara Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to delivering innovative crop nutrition solutions that support sustainable agriculture, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and contribute to Ghana’s food security goals.
