A former National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has promised his resolve to support John Dramani Mahama to rescue Ghana from the political abyss the NPP has plunged the nation into.

Mr. Ampofo, who is recuperating after seeking medical attention abroad following a yearlong ill health, says he will lace his boots and mount the field to help the NDC win power in the December 07 polls.

Considering the devastating level the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has left the State, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo told the former President he is the safest pair of hands to deliver the nation now.

He reassured that he will offer his support to the campaign irrespective of his health condition to ensure Ghana is saved.

The former Chairman gave the assurance during a visit by the former President to his residence Sunday, June 09, 2024.

“I believe that I can be on my feet 24 hours to contribute to the 24-hour economy. I want to assure you that I will lace my boots whether my legs are strong or not and then enter into the field. Boots must be on the ground and make sure that we touch base with every nook and cranny of the country.

“Your vision and your determination to push Ghana forward, even though it is going to be very difficult resetting this country judging from the level they have brought us to, I believe that you are the safest pair of hands we can attach Ghana to, and I will urge all our colleagues that let’s bury our differences and put the party and Ghana first and not our personal parochial interest and by the grace of God, we will win power. It is not for us, it is always for Ghana,” he assured.

He also expressed gratitude to John Mahama for the support he offered him whilst he was seeking treatment.

On his part, the former President lauded Mr. Ofosu Ampofo’s commitment to the cause, indicating that while he was ill and away, he still kept base with him trying to ensure everything was in place.

“He has been the field commander before and once a commander, always a commander. Even when he was ill and in US, he was following everything that was happening here. He kept sending me texts and said ‘you people must do this, watch this, do this, do that’ and so he never disengaged,” John Mahama noted.
