President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, has commended his main opponent in the December 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for exhibiting “sportsmanship” after the polls.
He says Bawumia’s early concession of defeat subdued all the tensions that come with elections with such high stakes and therefore deserves commendation.
During his inaugural speech at the Black Star Square after his swearing-in Tuesday, January 07, 2025, John Mahama wished the former Vice President well in all his endeavours.
“I extend my warmest wishes to His Excellency, the former Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia. It was a grueling campaign, and we gave it our all. Your sportsmanship in making an early concession eased tensions and contributed to the early conclusion of the electoral contest. I wish you all the best in your endeavors,” he stated.
Mahama also extolled his long-standing relationship with former President Akufo-Addo, saying he has been a friend and a worthy opponent over the period.
