The Head Coach of Young Apostles FC, William Afoakwa, has been charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for comments said to undermine public confidence in the Ghana Premier League.
William Afoakwa granted an interview to a radio station, Sikka FM, and indicated that club owners and referees determine results of matches, and not the hardworking coaches and players.
The comments are said to breach Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.
He has been given up to Monday, June 16 to respond.
Meanwhile, Young Apostles have issued a statement to dissociate from the comments.
“Mr Afoakwa’s contract with the club has ended, and his remarks, which suggested that referees and club owners rather than coaches, determine match outcomes, do not reflect the views, values or position of Young Apostles FC.
“We strongly disassociate ourselves from these statements, which we consider personal opinions expressed by Mr Afoakwa and not representative of the club’s stance.”
The statement issued on Friday, June 13 assured that Young Apostles, who placed 15th in their first season in the top-flight league, will remain committed to upholding the integrity of the League.
