Chief of Staff, Dr. Julius Debrah, has said there is something unforgettable about the people of the Volta Region, describing them as dignified, learned without arrogance and hospitable without pretence.
He says Voltarians hold their heritage proudly and love Ghana deeply, noting that the Region has given the nation outstanding teachers, farmers, artists, entrepreneurs and patriots.
Speaking as Guest of Honour at the 2026 Asogli Yam Festival, known as Asogli Teza, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, Dr. Debrah, who represented President John Dramani Mahama, said the nation is stronger because of the Volta Region.
Touching on the character of the people, he said their warmth is enduring.
“There is something unforgettable about the people of the Volta Region. You carry yourself with dignity. You are learned without arrogance, industrious without noise, and hospitable without pretense,” he said.
He noted that the Region’s sense of hospitality and loyalty stands out.
“You hold your heritage proudly and love Ghana deeply. Voltas welcome with whole heartedness and its friendship endures,” he noted, adding that “this Region has given Ghana outstanding teachers, farmers, artists, entrepreneurs, and patriots.”
According to him, the contributions of Voltarians have strengthened Ghana’s social fabric, stressing that “our nation is stronger because of you.”
The Chief of Staff urged the gathering to remember the contributions behind the festival.
“As we celebrate, let us remember the farmer who made these feasts possible, the young people who must inherit our culture and economy, and those who preserve this identity through migration, hardship, and change. Let us pass the inheritance on stronger, richer, and more united,” he said.
Reflecting on the symbolism of the yam harvest, he said it represents hope.
“I leave you with one image, the new young being lifted from the dark earth into light. That is what hope looks like. It tells us that patient work can bring hidden promise into the open,” he stated.
He expressed hope that the next season will record greater progress, with the vision of seeing both the Volta Region and the nation as a whole with realisation of bigger dreams.
“When we gather for the next season, may we count a wider harvest, farms made more productive, young people trained, businesses expanded, roads improved, investment began, and families giving fresh hope,” he said.
He called on Asogli to continue to show the way in honouring heritage while building the future.
“May today’s drums call us to celebration and to duty. May every beat remind us that heritage is strongest when it carries a people forward, and may Asogli continue to show Ghana how to honor the past, stand together in the present, and build confidently for the future,” he added.
This year’s celebration also marked the 23rd Anniversary of the ascension of the Togbe Afede XIV, as Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State.
