The Ministry of Youth and Sports has spent in excess of GH₵57million, the amount allocated to them as budget for the 2022 Financial year.

This was contained in a Report of Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture on the Annual Budget estimates of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the 2023 Financial year, exclusive to Onua Sports.

The amount spent by the ministry includes monies it claims have been used to build infrastructure to develop the other sporting disciplines in the country.

Also substantial in the report, is monies expended by the ministry at the qualifiers, preparation and participation of the Black Stars at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“The Ministry in 2022 was allocated a total amount of Three hundred and eighteen million, three hundred and twenty-nine thousand Cedis (GH¢318,329,000) for its programmes.

“As at October 2022, a total amount of Three hundred and seventy-six million, two hundred and four thousand, seven hundred and sixty-nine Cedis, sixty-eight pesewas (GH¢376,204,769.68) was released to the Ministry and the actual expenditure of the Ministry as at October 2022 amounting to Three hundred and sixty-four million, six hundred and thirty-nine thousand, four hundred and seventy Cedis, fifty-five pesewas (GH¢364,639,470.55).

“This indicates that the Ministry has an excess fund of Fifty-seven million, eight hundred and seventy-five thousand, seven hundred and sixty-nine Cedis, sixty-eight Pesewas (GH¢57,875,769.68) released by the Ministry of Finance,” portions of the document read.
