Waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has expressed its intention to bid for the national Street-sweeping Programme when the government opens the tender.

This follows the expiration of its earlier contract with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in September 2024 after a scheduled extension, with the government now planning to open tenders for competitive bidding in subsequent contracts.

In response to a June 11, 2025 release from the Office of the President, Zoomlion says it welcomes and supports the development, stating its readiness to participate in the competitive bidding process, having previously applied for the contract in 2019.

“Zoomlion Ghana Limited fully supports and welcomes this approach. We are well prepared and eager to actively participate in any forthcoming competitive procurement processes,” it stated.

Meanwhile, Zoomlion has clarified the recent developments between them and the YEA regarding its Street-sweeping programme.

The company explained that the contract between them expired in September 2024 after a scheduled extension, rather than being terminated as reported in the media.

“The contract has therefore reached its natural conclusion and expired. Contrary to claims in some media reports, this expiration does not constitute a termination or cancellation of the agreement by the government, and that is not what the Office of the President stated,” the statement contained.

Zoomlion also expressed its readiness to commit to accountability and welcomed the audit initiative taken by the presidency regarding payments made to the company after the contract’s expiration.

“As a responsible corporate entity, transparency, integrity, and delivering value for money are core to our operations,” the company added, expressing its support for sanitation workers and endorsement of efforts to improve their remuneration.

“Zoomlion remains deeply committed to ensuring dignified and sustainable livelihoods for sanitation workers across the country.”
