At least 10 people have been confirmed dead after a multiple collision between a tipper truck, two mercedes benz buses and a tricycle also known as ‘aboboyaa’ at the Ofankor Barrier on the Accra – Kumasi Highway Thursday morning, August 13, 2026.
ADO1 Alex King Nartey, from the Public Relations Unit of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), tells TV3’s NewDay that about seven people are also unconscious, with one girl, having her leg severely severed.
Several passengers were trapped in the wreckage which took the intervention of residents and personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service to be rescued.
He said the personnel provided immediate assistance to those injured and transported by an ambulance team to the hospital for medical attention.
According to the Service, the situation is volatile as its personnel continued efforts to bring the rescue operation under control, noting that the final casualty figure had not yet been established.
Meanwhile, the accident has affected traffic flow along the highway, with a inner lane of the stretch –main road –temporary restricted to allow emergency crews to work.
The GNFS has advised motorists travelling from Pokuase and Amasaman towards Ofankor and Accra to use the outer lane, approach the area with extreme caution and give way to emergency responders as rescue and clearance operations continue.
