The family of the late Level 200 law student who was allegedly murdered on August 27 by a police officer on the Tema Motorway is demanding a befitting judgement for their son, even though the culprit, General Corporal Robert Koranteng, has been charged with murder.
His father, Evans Badioo, renewed calls for justice at his son’s burial service held at the Charismatic Evangelistic Ministry at North Legon in Accra.
Ivan Apprey Baidoo was en route to East Legon to play football with his friends on a commercial motorcycle when they were pursued by General Corporal Robert Koranteng. The officer allegedly pushed the motorcycle, leading to Ivan’s death.
It was a solemn and sad moment as family, loved ones, colleagues and old students converged to pay their last respects.
They could not come to terms with a loss they deemed avoidable, one that has cut deep into the hearts of many.
Tributes paid glowing respect to the life, ideals and achievements of the late Ivan Apprey Baidoo.
In his tribute, the father of the deceased, Evans Baidoo, emphasised that the family will collaborate with the Police Service to bring closure to the case.
“Son, nothing can atone for your loss and forced demise. Nevertheless, your burial will not in any way end my pursuit of justice for such a senseless killing. The Ghana Police has identified and interdicted the officer alleged to have committed the unthinkable offence against you, and I promise that we will work with the Service to bring closure to this matter,” he stressed.
For the 2024 year group of Adisadel College, they will not rest until a befitting judgement is served. Their spokesperson, Ebenezer Bortey Borketey, revealed that they have been following developments and will continue to monitor investigations. He demanded a full-scale investigation, analysis and evaluation of the situation.
Aunts of Ivan Apprey Baidoo say a life imprisonment sentence for the culprit would bring some relief, even though it would not bring back their loved one.
For now, we can only watch as the wheels of justice grind, whether fast or slowly. What remains certain is that past students of Adisadel College are demanding a befitting judgement for one of their own.
