Police in Kumasi have arrested three men linked to a gang that has been riding motorcycles at night, racing on public roads and robbing pedestrians.
The three: Sharif Mahmud, 23, Abdallah Karim, 25, and James Alena, 25, were picked up at Suame at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
In a statement issued by the police on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, it said some officers on an operation intercepted the men after weeks of tracking the group’s movements in the area.
According to the police, the group has been using late-night racing as cover to target people walking alone, leaving many residents afraid to move around at night.
The Ashanti Regional Command has said the three have since been granted police inquiry bail and are expected to be put before court when investigations are complete.
Their court appearance has been held up by the ongoing strike by the Judicial Service Association of Ghana (JUSAG), the statement has explained.
Police say they are still looking for other members of the gang who are on the run, and have asked the public to share any credible information that could help trace them.
