Host of Maakye on Onua TV/FM, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has vented his spleen on the Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, for his incompetence that has contributed to Ghana’s economic woes.

Dr. Addison had indicated the 2023 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government was going to help Ghana spend less on defraying her debts which is a good sign for Ghana.

Reacting to the issue, Captain Smart asked if spending less on Ghana’s debt would automatically reduce the country’s debt stock.

According to him, the ballooning debt of the state is partly due to the governor’s incompetence such as overlooking the indiscipline of the government in its spending.

Captain Smart argues Dr. Addison should have ensured the 10 billion cedis he granted the government to print to support its spending be adhered to, rather than allowing the amount to be doubled before telling Ghanaians about less spending in 2023.

“If you were competent, government wouldn’t have printed 20 billion when you gave orders for 10 billion to be printed. What did you do? And you think you now have teeth so you can talk. If you spend less on our debt in 2023, will that automatically reduce the debt? The debt will still be there,” he fumed.

At a media briefing by the governor Monday, November 28, 2022, Dr. Addison said he was going to ensure no Ghanaian bank becomes insolvent in the coming years despite government haircuts to some bondholders in the country.

He said they are keeping a close eye on the banks to avert any unforeseen situations that will worsen their operations and render them insolvent and provide them the banks the needed liquidity.

“The good thing is that we think that there are adequate buffers. Nevertheless, the Central Bank will put in measures that will ensure that the banks remain solvent,” he assured.
