Host of Onua TV’s morning show, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has launched the ‘Gomoa West Mechanised Boreholes Project’ to provide potable water for residents in the polity.
The project, which is part of his 5th anniversary with Media General Ghana Limited, is aimed at alleviating the plight residents go through in accessing water for their daily routines.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 1, 2026, Smart indicated that the celebration of his five years with the media giants will not be “complete until it touches lives, restores hope, and brings relief to communities that need support.”
He noted that he has been inspired to undertake the project to address the decades-old challenge which has bedeviled residents of the Gomoa West enclave.
“It is in this spirit that I, together with my partners and the CAPTAIN SMART FOUNDATION, have resolved to undertake a major humanitarian intervention in the Gomoa West Constituency by drilling mechanized boreholes to help alleviate the long-standing water challenges facing my beloved people of Gomoa West.”
The project, he noted, “will be implemented in Ten Phases across the constituency, with the first phase beginning in selected beneficiary communities.”
Captain Smart explained that the initiative will be launched on Thursday, June 4, 2026, with communities including Gomoa Techiman, Gomoa Tarkwa, Gomoa Eshiem, Mozano Secondary School, and Gomoa Enyeme benefiting.
The remaining communities to benefit from the first phase are: Gomoa Abamkrom, Gomoa Appiakrom Debiso, Gomoa Anyanful, Gomoa Mankessim, and Gomoa Oguaa.
According to Smart, the project goes beyond the construction of boreholes to providing health for the people, giving them dignity and easing the burden on families to provide hope to these communities.
He expressed hope that the initiative brings the needed “development, relief, and renewed hope” to the beneficiaries to give them the “joy, comfort, and lasting impact” it is meant for.
Recounting his five-year stay with the brand, the controversial broadcaster recalled how he had to quit his previous job after he was suspended for running a political story against the government of the day.
He said he later had to join the Media General conglomerate after receiving a call from the Group Chief Executive Officer, Beatrice Agyemang, where his five-year journey began on Monday, June 1, 2021, exactly five years today.
Captain Smart also reflected on some ups and downs during the period, disclosing how some men of God prophesied doom for his move from his previous station to Onua TV/FM, making many of his former colleagues reject the offer to join him.
He expressed gratitude to Management and staff of Media General, both past and present, as well as his production team, which he described as the backbone of his success at the station.
The subsequent phases of the borehole project are expected to continue once the first phase is completed.
