Host of Maakye on Onua TV, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has blamed the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry and the Minerals Commission for failing to tackle illegal mining otherwise known as ‘galamsey’ in the country.
The broadcaster says the Environmental Protection Agency, likewise the two others, have also failed in protecting the country’s environment against illegal mining.
In an interview with Benjamin Aryee, a former Chief Executive of the Minerals Commission who is also the Director of Mining at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, also blamed the security agencies for the increasing illegal mining in the country.
Mr. Aryee, who advises the Lands Minister say they have been informing the security agencies about the activities of illegal miners but have failed to effect any arrest.
According to him, blaming the Minerals Commission, the Lands Ministry and the Environmental Protection Agency is untenable since some persons have been shot to death in their attempt to stop illegal miners.
The two clashed in a telephone interview on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, when Mr. Aryee failed to admit that the agencies should held liable for the menace.
