George Opare Addo, the National Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed the resolve of the young persons in the party to ensure they secure power come December 07.
He has assured the flag bearer John Dramani Mahama, and his running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, that the NDC youth will protect the ballots for the party on the election day.
According to the former Municipal Chief Executive of Akuapim North, what happened in the 2020 elections where some persons were shot by military men in the Techiman South constituency will not be repeated in 2024.
Speaking at the launch of the NDC’s Youth Manifesto at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Monday, August 12, 2024, Opare Addo, touting the NDC as the doyen of rule of law, reemphasised the party’s commitment to protect Ghana’s democracy.
He said his outfit will not fold their arms if the other side of the divide comes to the field armed.
“The NDC youth wing and the youth of Ghana shall win you power come 7th December 2024” he told John Mahama at the UPSA auditorium, adding that “this election is about revolution without a gun. It’s a revolution of minds and wits and we will make sure that that ballot box is protected.”
“The NDC is law abiding. The NDC will do everything because we are the midwives of Ghana’s democracy. We will do everything to protect the democracy. We shall not become the victims of peace. If anybody wants peace, let us all sit and negotiate peace.
“If you draw your dagger, we’ll draw our dagger. We will do everything as legal and law abiding citizens. We shall not foment trouble anywhere. But the election of 2020, Techiman South will not repeat itself. We shall take power and I repeat, we shall take power come what may, through every legal means on the 7th of December,” he told a gathering of party youth with the flag bearer and his mate present, as well as other party executives.
