The National Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) George Opare Addo has cautioned the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Bryan Acheampong, over his comments of the ruling government’s intentions not to hand over power to the opposition after the December 07 polls.

‘Pablo’, as he is known in the political space, has called on persons closer to the lawmaker to caution him over his utterances as the NDC is prepared to wrestle power from them this year.

His comments follow Mr. Acheampong’s reiteration of the NPP’s unpreparedness to hand over power to the NDC regardless of their quest for it after the 2024 polls.

During a ‘Walk with JM’ event organised by the NDC with its flag bearer as part of their 2024 Easter activities, the NDC National Organiser responded to the Minister of Agriculture by telling him the party’s readiness to face them if their intention is not to hand over power.

“He claims he will not hand over [power] even if we win [the elections]. If his mother and clan head are alive, they should advise him. He should show his power when the day comes,” Pablo said in response to Bryan Acheampong.

Bryan Acheampong, expressing optimism in the party retaining power, despite admitting the economic challenges confronting the citizenry, noted that the government is committed to resolving the hurdles before December in order to win the trust of the people at the polls.

He was speaking at a unity walk organised by the party to mark this year’s Kwahu Easter celebrations at Mpraeso in the Kwahu South municipality of the Eastern region. The unity walk was part of the NPP’s activities to observe this year’s Kwahu Easter festivities.

He explained the NDC would never win the elections regardless of their desires, adding that a party that cannot win elections cannot be handed power.

His call followed an earlier one he made in 2023 when the NPP was preparing for its presidential primary.

NPP will never hand over power to the NDC – Bryan Acheampong

“Last year I stood here in Mpraeso and said that whether NDC likes it or not they will never win the 2024 polls. If you don’t win an election, will power be handed over to you? We will not hand it over to them today or tomorrow.

“As at that time I made the statements Ghana was confronted with economic challenges. Food inflation was around 61%. Inflation was around 55%. The prices of cement and iron rods went up. Contractors said because of the IMF program, they were not going to work.

“Agenda 111 projects came to a standstill. The dollar prices went up as high as GH¢19.00. Even at the time, in 2020, when we were in difficulty, the NDC was thinking that because we were in difficulty, Ghanaians were going to vote against the NPP.

“But I told you that before we will vote in the next election, the economy will be restored and Ghanaians will see the good works of the NPP government,” Bryan Acheampong reiterated.
