Former President John Dramani Mahama has described the 2024 election as another opportunity for Ghana to gain a second independence.

He says despite Ghana gaining independence some 66 years ago, the abysmal performance of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken the nation aback and it was time the citizenry see the upcoming election as an opportunity to save the country again.

He told a charged crowd as he formally, introduced himself to delegates in the Asawase constituency Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Mr. Mahama noted the nation was threading on the path of success until the NPP took over after the 2016 elections, taking the nation backwards.

“After six years of the NPP administration, this is all they can do. There is nothing more to be done and we are all witnesses to it.

“We handed over to them in 2016 and everything was okay then but now we keep retrogressing. I am not the one going to tell you because we are all living witnesses to it.

“That is why even though Ghana gained independence in 1957, this upcoming election is Ghana’s second independence,” he indicated.
