Akua Donkor’s Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) is set to announce the party it will throw its support to with few weeks into the December 2024 general elections.

The party leadership has said it is going to have a meeting to decide on which of the political parties to throw its support to so that their members can vote for that party on December 07.

The decision comes on the back of the disqualification of the flag bearer replacement that was presented in place of the party’s late founder and presidential candidate, Akua Donkor.

Philip Appiah Kubi, known in public life as ‘Roman Fada’, was disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) after making what the Commission terms significant errors and illegalities contained on his nomination form.

Although the EC granted him a 10-day period to fix those errors, the GFP could not appropriately correct the mistakes making the candidate unfit to contest the upcoming polls.

After the announcement by the EC Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Richard Botchway, the National Organiser of the party, in an engagement with the media noted that the leadership will have a deliberation and come up with a party to endorse come December.

“…We’ll meet. I am going to meet the national executive and we will throw our support to one political party,” he stated.

He also disclosed to the public the future of the party, indicating that “all the political parties are aware that nobody is going to contest for the GFP in the upcoming election. So we have all made the decision that in the next election we will make a good structure and get another flag bearer.

“…We are mourning and we are going to rebuild our mother Aunty’s Akua Donkor’s party in the next election. We don’t have a divided front.

“We started with Madam Akua Donkor in 2012, 2016 so what our General Secretary said on air was not true so he shouldn’t be taken seriously.”

I’m happy our Presidential Candidate has been disqualified – GFP National Organizer
