Patrick Yaw Boamah has been declared winner of the Okaikwei Central constituency by the Electoral Commission (EC), retaining the seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Boamah, the incumbent MP for the constituency in the Greater Accra region, polled 21,099 of the valid votes cast to win the seat, with his contender, Abdulai Abu Baba Saddiq, garnering 19,368 of the votes.

The declaration follows a High Court ruling on Saturday, January 04, 2025, which asked the Commission to complete the re-collation it was undertaking in the constituency following an application filed by the NPP.

The EC, according to the ruling by the presiding judge, Justice Forson Agyapong, left 31 polling stations outstanding which was a breach of its obligations.

He therefore issued an order of mandamus compelling the EC to complete the collation process and incorporate the outcome in the already collated results.

The completion of the process made Mr. Yaw Boamah become winner of the disputed constituency.

With barely two days left for the current Parliament to be dissolved to inaugurate a new one, four constituencies are still in contention over who emerged winner after the December 07, 2024, elections, due to some issues that came put during the collation.

Okaikwei Central is one of these constituencies. The NPP have since had rulings in the other three constituencies going in their favour, comprising  Ablekuma North, Techhiman South and Tema Central.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has served notice of appeal against the High Court’s ruling on all the four constituencies.
