The Kaneshie District Court One has sentenced a 23-year-old cashier to three months imprisonment with hard labour after pleading guilty to stealing GH¢8,575.00 from his employer.
The convict, Andy Tetteh, admitted in court that he used the sum for sports betting, which he eventually lost.
Master Tetteh was an employee at Bingo Bets, a betting company located at Ecomog, Adabraka, where he worked as a cashier.
Prosecuting the matter, Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah, told the court that the incident occurred on April 30, 2025, when Tetteh received bets totalling GH¢8,575.00 from customers but failed to account for the money.
The complainant, Simon Teye Kwabla, who is the manager of the place lodged a complaint with the police after Tetteh failed to produce the funds. It was revealed after investigations that Tetteh had invested all of the money into betting, hoping to multiply the money unfortunately lost everything.
He was apprehended and charged with stealing, arraigned and admitted to the offence. After admitting to his own plea, the presiding judge convicted him on his own plea and handed him a three-month sentence with hard labour.
