The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it has activated provisions regulating the Ghana Premier League (GPL) following unsuccessful engagements with Nsoatreman FC over their withdrawal from the 2024/25 League.

Nsoatreman FC officially wrote to the GFA to request a withdrawal from the League, citing security and safety concerns after the unfortunate incident on Matchday 19 which resulted in the death of an Asante Kotoko fan.

Nsoatreman FC request withdrawal from GPL over safety of players

Since the resumption of the League on Saturday, March 8, Nsoatreman FC say their players’ safety and security have been threatened, particularly in matches involving FC Samartex and Asante Kotoko.

The GFA says it has referred the withdrawal request to the GFA Prosecutor following unsuccessful engagements with the club over the request.

The provision of the GPL Regulations with respect to the withdrawal of a club, particularly Article 13(5), has, therefore, been activated.

As a result, from hence, three points and three goals will be awarded any side that is supposed to meet Nsoatreman.

Other punitive measures, according to the nation’s football-governing body, will be considered by the GFA Prosecutor.
