Ghana Premier League side Nsoatreman FC have written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), requesting a withdrawal from the ongoing Ghana Premier League (GPL).
According to management of the club, the decision has been taken due to recent incidents involving matches with Asante Kotoko and FC Samartex 1996.
Following a highly-tensed 1-0 win over Asante Kotoko on Matchday 19, Nsoatreman FC made the headlines for the wrong reasons after a staunch Fabulous fan was stabbed to death near the Prof Amoah Koramansah II Park in Nsoatre.
The death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, forced a suspension of the League for nearly one month.
Its resumption over last weekend witnessed an attemoted attack on the Nsoatreman team bus on their way to Bibiani for their game against FC Samartex.
“In light of this, we can no longer guarantee the safety of our players, therefore, management and board of directors are left with no choice but to prioritize the safety and security of our players by withdrawing from the League,” a letter to the general Secretary of the GFA said.
“We regret any inconveniences this decision may cause.”
Nsoatreman FC lost their game against the champions by a lone goal, leaving them with 21 points, just five points above bottom-placed Accra Lions.
They were scheduled to play Basake Holy Stars in their next game.
