An Asante Kotoko fan was on Sunday stabbed to death by another fan believed to be Nsoatreman FC’s after the Matchday 19 game in the Ghana Premier League.

An altercation is said to have broken out between the two, leading to a deadly brawl.

Identified only as Nana Pooley, the Asante Kotoko fan died on his way to the hospital following his stabbing during the brawl.

The incident is said to have happened near the venue of Sunday’s game, Nana Koramansah II Park in Nsoatre in the Bono Region.

Nsoatreman FC have commiserated with Asante Kotoko over the incident, categorically condemning it in no uncertain terms.

“We have been informed that an argument had earlier happened between the deceased and the culprit at a nearby drinking spot that later brought up this stabbing incident behind the stadium,” Nsoatreman FC said in a statement issued hours later.

“The altercation degenerated into fisticuffs leading to a stabbing of the deceased.

“Nsoatreman FC wishes to categorically condemn this act of violence in no uncertain terms.”

The 2023/24 MTN FA Cup champions have pledged to fully cooperate with the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to “ensure that the perpetrator of this crime is brought to justice”.

The club urged all stakeholders to exercise restraint and support the relevant authorities as they conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
