South African Eric Tinkler has left his role as Head Coach of Asante Kotoko following a 0-2 home loss to Aduana FC in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League Sunday.
The decision comes barely two months after the former Bafana Bafana captain agreed to coach the Porcupine Warriors.
In a club statement after what was the first defeat this season, the board said it had tried to talk Tinkler out of a “personal reason” to be released from his contract.
“Earlier on, both parties engaged in meaningful negotiations to avert the decision at this time of the relationship between the parties but finally had to respect coach Tinkler’s decision,” the statement signed by Secretary to the Board A. K. Osei-Owusu, Esq. on Monday, September 28 said.
“The club maintains that professionalism, unwavering commitment and total focus are crucial to achieve the key performance indices it has set to meet its present objectives.”
Asante Kotoko expressed gratitude to Coach Tinkler for his professionalism and commitment and wished him well in his future endeavours.
According to the club, all stakeholders including players remain focused on their objectives this season under Director of Football Stanley Menzo.
Asante Kotoko’s next match will be at home to Karela United on Thursday, October 1.
